Springtime Wyoming Wonders
Springtime in Wyoming is signaled by the call of the meadowlark, a medium-sized songbird with a bright yellow chest. The song of this state bird indicates a reawakening from months of a winter freeze that’s turned trees barren, made hares white and sent bears to dream in hibernation.
As temperatures rise to the mid 60s by mid May, the snow from the majestic Wind River Range continues melting, creating the headwaters for the great Green River. The spring runoff fills the river and its streams with frigid water, prompting the rainbow trout to spawn. The insect world follows suit, and the top of these beautiful waters becomes a fertile breeding ground for insects. June means the famed green drake and gray drake hatches, plus the blue damsel and green damsel hatches.
“The Green River is one of those places that can get into your soul. It’s a relationship that can become part of who you are.”
– Larry Trullis
